Welcome!

I am a doctoral candidate in the Religion and Culture concentration with the Religious Studies department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I am currently finishing my dissertation, “Captive Bodies, Queer Religions: Scripting American Religious Intolerance,” under the direction of Dr. Randall Styers.  My work focuses on masculinity and religious intolerance in contemporary America.  I examine three captivity narratives–Not Without My Daughter, Under the Banner of Heaven, and Michelle Remembersas articulations of American Protestant anxieties about the challenges marginal religions pose to normative masculinity.

My research interests include American religions, gender and sexuality, religious language and literature, religious alterity, and contemporary critical thought.
